Cardinal Joseph Zen
Ze-kiun SDB
Cardinal of the Catholic Church. Priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Born in Shanghai, Cardinal Zen fled to Hong Kong to escape from the second Chinese civil war. Cardinal Zen was ordained a priest in 1961, and later served as the sixth Bishop of Hong Kong. He was proclaimed cardinal in 2006, the second person in the Catholic church in Hong Kong to receive this honour. Cardinal Zen has been a supporter of the democratic movement in Hong Kong, is a defender of religious freedom, and is active in the fight against Chinese Communist Party’s interference in missionary and church activities.
Dr. Po-Keung Hui
Hui received his PhD from The State University of New York at Binghamton and was an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Departure of Cultural Studies at the Lingnan University. His works include Say Goodbye to Cynicism: the Crisis of Liberalism in Hong Kong, What Capitalism is Not, and Farewell Lazy Common sense – Liberating Education and Diverse Cultural Life, etc.
Denise Ho
Ho is an independent local singer, actress and pro-democracy activist. In 2007, Ho started the HOCC Charity Fund to encourage supporters and young people to care and give more to society. In 2008, she produced a concept album Ten Days in The Madhouse which uses a mixture of arts and music to explore social issues. She also produced a documentary Decameron for charity sale in aid of vulnerable groups in Hong Kong. Ho has been a public figure in many protests in Hong Kong. She actively speaks out on social issues and problems in the music industry in Hong Kong.
Dr. Margaret Ng Ngoi-yee
A practising barrister in Hong Kong, Ng has represented the legal functional constituency in the Legislative Council form 1995-1997 and 1998-2012. She is also a member of the Civic Party, and the Basic Law Article 45 Concern Group. Before taking up legal practice, she worked for the University of Hong Kong and Chase Manhattan Bank of America (now JP Morgan Chase), and held senior position in Ming Pao Daily News. Cyd is an advocate for LGBT rights, and for the rights of sex workers and women, and has been a significant voice against gender discrimination and discrimination on family roles. She was one of a few legislators to openly support LGBT, and has subsequently received criticism and attacks. She has been pushing for the government to enact anti-discrimination legislation based on race and sexual orientation. She was chairperson of the bills committee for the 2004 Education (Revised) Bill and vice-chairperson of the panel on environmental affairs.
